National Geographic on Disney+

We’re really missing travelling at the moment although National Geographic and NatGeo Kids on Disney+ is providing us with a much-needed travel fix. There are excellent films and documentaries, plus the NatGeo Family hub provides inspiration for mini adventurers of all ages with quizzes, videos, science experiments and more.

National Geographic

With movies, series and documentaries there’s a wealth of choice available. The Lost Treasures of the Maya for example sees explorer Albert Lin venture into the Guatemalan jungle to explore how a high-tech treasure map is revealing tens of thousands of ancient ruins. Rogue Trip on the other hand is a father-son trip to roughish nations, territories, and regions often misunderstood and overlooked but surprise, amaze, and inspire. The docuseries is led by war correspondent Bob Woodruff with his 28-year-old son. Or what about going deep beneath the surface of the sea to discover Giants of the Deep Blue – a wonderful look (and listen!) at the behaviour of whales and dolphins.

New to National Geographic is The Right Stuff which tells the inspirational story of the early days of the US Space Program and the Mercury Seven astronauts, based on the bestseller by Tom Wolfe. The newly formed NASA had the monumental task of sending a man into space within two years – a task they estimated would take decades to accomplish. It’s an aspirational story about how ordinary human beings can achieve the extraordinary. The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom on the other hand provides viewers with a backstage pass fto explore Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and The Seas with Nemo and Friends at EPCOT narrated by Disney favourite Josh Gadd.

NatGeo Kids

NatGeo Kids provides younger children with a raft of programmes. Like Fearless Adventures with Jack Randall. He’ll pretty much do anything to show what animals are out there – at times to hilarious effect! Whether it be tracking turtles in the Great Barrier Reef, swimming with a crocodile or rescuing a baby kangaroo. Or what about getting a taste of what a National Geographic explorer gets up to exploring black holes, climbing mountains and deep-sea diving?

NatGeo Family

NatGeo Family is an online hub that provides inspiration for mini adventurers with quizzes, videos and science experiments – even at-home classroom resources. How about discovering what makes tigers terrific, taking a virtual tour of Petrified Forest National Park or discovering your shark personality?

Designed for primary and secondary school children, there’s an excellent range of resources designed to inspire. Like learning about Paul Salopek’s 21,000-mile trek around the globe, phenomena in nature or the earth, and its interconnection with human activity. There are lots of brilliant activities designed to help kids explore the world, get creative, and learn. Of course, there are plenty of fun activities to keep them busy too like goofy animal videos, entertaining games and colouring. The subjects covered on NatGeo Family cover animals, history and culture, science, travel and the latest stories.

Disney+ has thousands of movies, shows and documentaries to choose from. As well as National Geographic, there’s Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars so it’s great for families. With less travelling at the moment, we’re going to be watching a lot more of what Disney+ has to over the coming months!
