Continue Reading…We do love a summer road trip even if exploring for a full 6 weeks isn’t doable – we wish! We didn’t get our road trip fix last year although we did squeeze a lot of travel in with August spent showing POD Venice and exploring the Venetian islands before taking an activity break with Neilson Holidays in Sardinia. We really not having a summer road trip though so later this month we’re hitting the road again. This time, instead of taking the ferry, we’ve set our sights on driving from Calais to a campsite in Switzerland. Yes, we are embarking on our first ever family camping trip!!!
Continue Reading…Last year saw me take trips to Tuscany, Verona, Sardinia, Venice (including the islands of Burano, Murano, Torcello) and Puglia. Just when I thought I couldn’t love Italy any more, it turns out I can! I’ve recently returned from a press trip with Bookings For You and some of my favourite family travel bloggers to discover what Lake Maggiore has to offer. Situated in Northern Italy, to the west of Lake Garda and Lake Como, and bordering Switzerland, Lake Maggiore is one of those destinations you know you’re just going to love even before you’ve explored it. What’s more, there’s heaps for families with kids of all ages to do. Read about some of the reasons to visit Lake Maggiore and in this post, where you can stay and what’s available locally.
The Doves travelled far and wide before POD came along, some 35 countries at the last count. We told ourselves nothing would change when she arrived – well not as far as travel was concerned anyway! Some five years on, it really is the best travelling as a family and seeing more of the world through POD’s eyes. Her excitement is so infectious and I just love that. Looking back, there’s so much more flexibility when children are smaller. Picking a family holiday is easy enough but it can be a challenge finding baby friendly accommodation that really does tick all the boxes.
An Englishman’s home is his castle, so the phrase goes. As a nation we spend countless hours and millions of pounds creating the spaces we live in. So why would we settle for a generic experience from our holiday accommodation?
Both myself and ‘the POD Father’ were well traveled before we met. I spent two years living and working in Australia while back-packed around SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji around the same time. As a couple our summer holidays mostly involved exploration of some kind whether in Europe or destinations further afield such as Tahiti, Canada and Antigua.
Zermatt is nestled in the shadow of the Matterhorn and the perfect destination for a fantastic ski holiday, on and off Piste. The town is 1,620 m (5,310 ft), and lies about 10 km (6.2 mi) from the over 10,800 ft (3,291.84 m) high Theodul Pass bordering Italy. With no cars allowed you can explore the snow covered streets with ease and drink in the atmosphere of this quintessentially Swiss resort.
