Mission Beach is located midway between Townsville and Cairns. For many it’s the gateway to visiting Dunk island which lies 4 km off the Australian east coast opposite the town of Mission Beach itself. Continue Reading…
Mostar is a city in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina home to a famous bridge that gives the city it’s name “most” meaning “bridge” in Bosnian. The historic city and its iconic bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th Century came to the world’s attention during the Croat–Bosniak War in 1993. The bridge that had spanned the River Neretva for 427 years finally succumbed to repeated shelling on the 9th November 1993 – it was reportedly hit by over 60 shells before crashing to the river bed below. Mostar was the most destroyed city in the former Yugoslavia with most of the old town buildings suffering the same fate as the bridge.
An Englishman’s home is his castle, so the phrase goes. As a nation we spend countless hours and millions of pounds creating the spaces we live in. So why would we settle for a generic experience from our holiday accommodation?
Pais Vasco is well recognised for its unique flavours, tapas and wine with cities such as Bilbao and San Sebastian boasting Michelin star chefs. While the Basque Country is largely commercialised, it’s a land surrounded by lush countryside, mountains and coastline – with much of the Urkiola National Park, Valderejo National Park and Urdaibai Biosphere Reservation untouched.
It happens to the best of us. One minute you’re happily taking in the views, the next feeling like you want to reach for a bag. My first experience of nausea was on a boat from Port Douglas to the Great Barrier Reef although self inflicted so I totally have myself fully to blame!
35 minutes by Eurotunnel and 60km down the French coast south of Calais lies Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, widely known as Le Touquet.
It’s said “Glamping is likely to satisfy any city slicker seeking a little refuge in nature – without foregoing any of life’s luxuries”. This was very much at the forefront of our minds when we reviewed the glamping experience at Chessington World of Adventures for our parent blog. They have a fantastic set up and while there was little we needed to take with us, that’s not always the case.
Our recent holiday to ‘Paris by the sea’ otherwise known as Le Touquet saw us take in much of the surrounding area. As well as learning to fly a kite for the first time on Le Touquet beach, we also visited the town of Berck which lies within the Parc du Marquenterre Nature Reserve.
Fresh from our trek to the magnificent Angel Falls the world’s highest waterfall we boarded a small plane to Ciudad Bolívar the capital of Venezuela’s South-eastern Bolívar State, which lies at the spot where the Orinoco River narrows to about a mile.
A few years ago I found myself with more holiday than my girlfriend (now wife), as luck would have it one of my good friends was in a similar position. We decided to hatch a plan for a week away.
